This gfci wiring provides protection to a duplex receptacle. By connecting the load terminals on the last gfci, the receptacle is protected and can be used just as if it were one of the gfci receptacles. One ground fault circuit interrupter at the beginning of the circuit can be used in the same way to protect multiple, subsequent receptacles as illustrated in the diagram below.
This diagram shows two switches in the same box with two separate 120 volt sources. Three-wire cable is supplying the source for both switches with the black and red wires going to the bottom switch terminals. The black wire from each light is connected to the top terminal of their respective switch. The white and ground wires are spliced to run to each light fixture.

Splice both the fan and the light hot wires together with the common wire from the SW2. The traveler wires are spliced together in the ceiling fixture box. To control the fan and light separately, a builtin switch such as a pull chain or remote control is required on the fan/light.
This is the updated wiring for this arrangement, with a 2-wire cable added between the fan/light and switches. The white wire is no longer used for hot and the source neutral is run through to the switch box to satisfy the 2011 NEC requirement of a neutral wire in all switch boxes. All other wiring is the same as above.
